Camping on Kauai

Camping is permitted at designated campgrounds at many of Kauai's state parks, county parks and forest reserves.  Permits are required for an overnight visit to any campground and must be obtained in advance.

State Park Campgrounds

State park campgrounds are open seven days per week, all year.  Permit applications must be received at least seven days before the camping event and are issued up to one year in advance.  The maximum length of stay at any one park is five consecutive nights.  Tent camping is $5 per campsite per night except for Nâ Pali Coast State Park which is $10 per person per night.  Permit applications are available by contacting:

Na Pali Coast State Park

You need to apply early for a permit to camp at the Kalalau campground.  Two-thirds of all permits during the summer are issued one year in advance.  Campsites are situated at the Hanakapiai, Hanakoa, Kalalau and Miloli‘i valleys.  These campsites are considered primitive and drinking water is unavailable.  Miloli‘i campsite, which can only be reached by boat, is closed indefinitely.

Kokee State Park

The campsite is in a lovely meadow close to the Koke‘e Museum.  Drinking water, bathrooms, a restaurant and a picnic shelter are available at the park headquarters.

Polihale State Park

The Polihale campsite is located on Kaua‘i's largest beach on the hot and arid west coast.  Facilities include bathrooms, showers, barbeque pits, picnic tables and a pavilion.

County Park Campgrounds

Camping permit fees are $3 per adult per night for non-residents and free for state residents.  Stays at the campsite are limited to seven nights.  Applications are available by contacting:
